Smart drugs: panacea or intoxicant?

Substances for increasing the concentration
Substances for increasing the concentration

Between believing that smart drugs can change our lives in an exceptional way and thinking that they are addictive substances, probably the truth lies in the middle.

According to Yerkes-Dodson’s law, a state of excitement and stress helps to focus on one’s goal, but excessive tension causes the opposite effect, increasing the level of anxiety and triggering side effects.

Specifically, a commonly used substance such as caffeine can certainly help in focusing if taken in moderate doses and cyclically, alternating periods of use to periods of abstinence (for example, alternation of a week) in order to derive maximum benefits. Overdose instead can hurt and cause intestinal problems. The same applies to creatine, used to improve physical performance, which should be taken with the same principle.

The first thing to evaluate is your psycho-physical status: for an anxious person, with a high level of stress, caffeine for example is not the right answer. If you have doubts about taking, especially at the level of mixing with more substances, the best solution is to consult a doctor.

One thing you can not ignore: sleep. A rest of 7-9 hours cannot be replaced by any product, and a good sleep is the basis for supplements or smart drugs to become really effective.
